I buddy boated to Catalina this weekend to hoop for lobsters one last time this season. We found what looked like a pretty good spot and dropped the nets right around sunset. It started slow with one here and one there. As it got later the catch improved. Some nice people were hooping near us and they got their limits fast. They called us in to their spot when they were going to leave. We moved over there and got double limits by 1:00AM, with a two day permit of course. It was an outstanding trip.

Congrats - Catalina was certainly on the crawl this year.

We made limits on about 10 trips throughout the season. The choice spots see a lot of boat traffic during the weekends. And it seems like - every year - the number of people hooping doubles.

3 Saturdays ago - there was not 20 feet of the frontside not covered in hooping bouys. Wonder what next year is going to look like?

I did most of my hooping locally this year, and did really well. This report was only the second trip to Cat. for bugs this year. They sure did crawl!

fishinmama, what a catch. you are puttin your boat in good use. too bad ive sold mines about 3 years ago, 26ft bayliner cutty. use to go to the islands on a regular basis.
