Need some suggestions, would like to round up my collection of reels.

My better reel collection is as follows:
TRQ200
TRQ300
16VSX

So my "heavy guns" are covered (I think), looking to fill the gaps here, I like the
Baja special too, but looking at adding couple saltist to the list.

Really like 30T (normal speed, 22lb drag, narrow), and also for the 2nd choice debating on 20H or 30H!

Thinking about selling my new 525 Mag and replace it with 20H!

Any thoughts?

Seant, I bought a Saltist 50 last year and fished it on my 8 day trip and loved it so much I bought a 30 this year, & can't wait to use it. It seemed to hold up well to the yellowtails (25-30 lb. class) and didn't ahve any problems with it. The good thing is, in my opinion, they seem to be fairly well made, seem to be durable, and don't cost a small fortune to buy. I say give it a try! I did & I'm glad I did.

Have a 30H and wish I would have purchased a 30T. I do not feel the higher speed is a distinct advantage. I would have preferred the additional cranking power of the 4.9:1 (30H).
That 6.4:1 (30T) on an eight footer can be trouble.

The reel has smooth drags, is solid and am vary happy with the preformance. An excellent value. Will handle anything out of So Cal of 3 days or less.

As for the 525 that would be a sweet 20-25 reel for casting anything. The mag control takes all the stress out of pitching iron. Its light and strong. Personally would opt for it over the 20.

Seant, a lot of this equiptment selection is subjective for sure. And we all have our personal styles and requirements. I would take the 525 to the park and try it out before making your decision on replacing it. A little stick time can really help determining if its a good fit for you.

ANd one more suggestion: Instead of the 30T consider the link below. The Charkster can get it for you. I am pretty sure it will have to be ordered. Some one is finally getting the message that lighter spools cast much better. This may be my next 30 reel.

That what I was thinking too, all the craze is speed, but that is only good for moving an iron fast through the water, and if your not around structure speed is not bad to crank with, but with structure or live baiting I think lower gear is better! I really like the 30T too!

Does that counter balanced little ball on the opposite end of the levers handle keep the reel more balanced when winding in the line. It looks like it would just bang into your hand when winding, but it has some purpose. A counter weight for balancing or do you use a full hand on both knobs when you catch a 50lb. seaweed ball and helps winding strength ? It's definitely the old tried and true style but I 'm wondering if my assumptions are correct ? They are greart looking reels, too bad they don't stay that way forever !!!
