Louie-

Ive read your many suggestions on what iron to have and know you recommend ironman, salas and tady. Youve said that salas 6x and 6x jr are good as well as tady 45, 9 tlc, and 15. You also have said that you particularly like the ufo #2. the good colors most recommend are mint, blue/white, blue/chrome, scrmabled egg, baby sh@& and bird S*#*. are there any other must have colors.

Im curious if their are any other jigs that are must haves. im also curious how do you know what type of hook to have on your jigs, do you recommend replacing hooks with other styles and if so what type/brand and size do you recommend.

okay.

here is what i do, but fellas feel free to add, if i forget somthing.

blue/white ironman 2 w/treble hook , this is my common throwing jig.
kelps,inshore,islands,the drop.
have caught many, many different species with this iron, sculpin to 50lb tunas.
i carry in my personal stock about 20 of them.
this is my all purpose , the very first jig i throw.

salas 6 jr bird and baby $hit in treble....
i call it the cedros jig.
caught many limits on those two colors and have never failed me in the early spring/summer 5-6 dayers.
talk about wide open yellows, wow , its my go to jig for cedros.

tady 9 or heavyier blue/white single siwash/j
hook.
this jig is what i use for deep structure or deeper colum type of fishing.
( example ) if the capt states >>> the fish are sitting at 30 fantom, and we are in the tuna grounds, the jigs is heavy enough to drop down to the colum ( depending on current ) and having a single siwash or j hook ( wider gap ) can penetrate deeper and wider to hold the fish better, especially , if its a school of 100lber.

the tady 15 ( suggest the glow back )
i only fish them at the rocks , and honestly to say, its best to fish them at night. i have not caught anything on that jig yet..... yet.lol

tlc in chrome or blue chrome w/ treble or single hook , i like to use it on the slide, have had great luck with them on the slide, once in a while i,ll drop it down deep in the early gray to find blue fins.

the mint, ah man got to have 1 or 2 in the mint.
you,ll be fishing the islands ( which one ) maybe 2 or all , who knows ( depending on capt judgement ).
fat calicos and seabass lurk the kelps along side of the islands.
seen a dude hooked a fat black sea bass and , well we only saw it momentarly before the line broke off.lol
but yes, a mint or two would be in my bag .

tady 9 blue/chrome single j hook.
i like to toss them at bluefins and fat albies.

if it has a glow back, i would use it in deeper colums and/or at night.

scrambled eggs and/or dorado color jigs are fine also. had better luck with the scrambled egg then the dodo pattern.

there are many great jigs out there, and anyone can disagree to my favortism, but once you find the right colored jig that works for ya, stick with it.

oh, and if you run into dodos, tell them dodoman says hello.lol

take a popper or two in a single hook for the dodo,s.they throw out a spectacular show .

What brand are those poppers. Are they yozuri poppers. And what type of single hook did you replace the treble hooks with.

Your expertise is such valuable stuff. I really appreciate you helping me out. Oh and ill tell ur fellow dodos u said hi.

lol, the split ring is rated at 180.
purpose of havin a heavy split ring, the yellow fins are known to attack poppers. this has not happen to me yet, but hopin next year it will.lol
the regular mustad brazed eye j hook , in stainless should do fine.
but its better to weld the ring.

okay , i need to correct my comment about the rings/hook.

what you can use , like i did is purchase some owner hyper wire rings in the 170 lb range, or 220, and get some 7691-x brazed eye j hooks.

no need to weld the hook, but you can use the hyper wire like i did or find some one with a brazer to weld the ring.

As far as the dropper loop is concerned. How are you setting it, with the hook coming offf the the loop? Im a total noob. I usually use the dropper to tie a hoochie in fron of my jig when fishing for rockfish.

And as for the cedar plug, i hear that the plain colored plug works real well, what about the other colors?

he standard dropper loop is very easy, once you get on the boat , the crew will assist you on that.

if you look deep into chark forum, i do believe walt has posted somthing about the knotts/ dropperloop set up.

as for colors, the hottest has always been the natural color.
2nd best is the purple .
