I hope I can get some input from some of the Chark crew. I just bought a swifty needle kit after I could not splice my mono into my JB 60# hollow using the line opener supplied with the Sato I also just bougt. When I failed with the line opener, I called and talked to Russ, I think was his name. I told him that I only needed a needle to splice the 60# line. He said the $40 Swifty kit should work.
I cannot get either of the two needles to go more than 1/2 inch into the spectra. Clearly these two needles are just too large. Any suggestions other than putting down another $90 to get the full needle kit? I can't be this dumb but this 60# spectra is almost impossible to work with.
It has been recommended to me that I should splice some 80# spectra onto the end of the 60# but to do that, I need the $90 needle kit. Any input is helpful and appreciated. I am getting broke in TN trying to learn this splicing gig.

Hopefully you mean when you are trying to peel it back onitself, mostguys will not wet their line and smoothe tipped Bullet-tip shaped mono for sure not to rip into your fibers. making your own needle is possible, get some welding websites and a pair of calipers to makes sure you get the right size line. GET THE KIDS SCISSORS and keep them sharpened.
I have not been on this board for a while. You really do not need a needle to splice in to 60# hollow, if you are splicing flouro. Flouro is stiffer and you can use a few grades of nail files to smooh the end of the flouro so there are no sharp edges, bullet head shape.. Then you can run the flouro in the hollow. Now to make the job easier, use Blackwater X16 Hollow Braid. This material is is super smooth to work with.
