I've seen a couple of quality hooks straighten and even break on long range tuna trips (15 day). Has anyone done a study of how much stress you can put on these hooks?

I've not seen or conducted any testing on hook strength. For long range charters of over 12 days, targeting cow sized tuna, 4X strength hooks are recommended - Owner Super Mutu, 4X Mustads, Gamakatsu heavy duty circles are all that I'd suggest to folks for that application. Anything less leads to problems. Appropriate drag loads of 30-40 lb will not lead to problems.

Great Stuff!
