Please give reccommendations , I am thinking of a newell or a diawa saltist for a 8 foot .880 butt medium action sabre stroker rod with a cork grip. also how should i mount the reel , the stock clamp or? should i also use rod wrap?
dirty nails stand close, sabre 8 ft med action is a good rod,
try the 545 or 535 penn if its in your favor, 25 lb is the choice of flavor. im not good with diawa or newell. penn and accurate is what i play with.there are other selection of reels.
Dude , go Old School with a Newelled out Penn 501 and a nylon Reelthing reelclamp to hold it on the corktape . I used to put a piece of shrinktube over the corktape to protect it where the reel mounted . If you have the old stock wingnut reelclamp it bites your hand . You could use a couple of hoseclamps ( just kidding )
I'm not sure . I'll check it out next break . I also use the Penn version that serves the same purpose .Make sure you use the short lugs if your blank is narrow in the butt so the bolt threads don't stick up through the nuts . They do make vinyl dipped hose clamps .(har , har, har)
Those nylon clamps were great, they didn't tear up your hands and unlike a lot of the ones you see today were not priced like they were made from gold.
Making Humboldt bay safe for bait one halibut at a time
I notice chark sells these http://www.backbonefishing.com/home.htm looks like a good idea on cork. Also is 501 penn the narrow spool?and what do need to do to Newell out a Penn 501 or 500? thanks to all.....
