My partner and I are heading to Ensenada on our new boat. We are beginning salt water fisherman (caught some albacore, etc. - but not a lot of experience). Wanted to get recomendations on best tackle, tips, etc.

I'm guessing we can get into albacore by trolling the banks off of Ensenada and maybe get some yellows on the paddy's.

We've got three penn trolling rods with Penn Senators and 50lb test, 2 Grafighters with Tiagras and 30lb, and 2 graphiters with trinidad reels for bait rods.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions. We are real fired up, but not experienced.

John

10,
I replied on your other post but you put in a bit more information on this thread.

What size are your reels?

Go to a reputable tackle shop (any suggestions here?) and tell them what you plan on fishing for and how, the crew at Charkbait as well as many other tackle retailers will be more than willing to help you spend your money on what you really need.

I have zero experiance in the area you plan on fishing but here's what I'd do for a start.

For trolling I'd get one 10 pack of Sevenstrand Tuna Clones in black and purple and one in Mex Flag. A few cedar plugs would be good to have too.

As far as iron, someone else should be able to help youi, I'm lacking/clueless on iron.

Hooks, Mustad or better, I like Gami's and Owner but last January I had the oppertunity to use high end Mustad hooks (on wahoo and YFT to 193lbs) and found them to be a very good product.

Hook size depends on bait size, more experianced fishermen here can add more or tell me my head is up my ass.

"J" hooks fron #2 to #3/0 with some 4/0 for larger bait.
Circle hooks from #1/0-4/0.

More to come....

I would be getting to abno9ther experienced boater that6 would know if you have all the proper safety equip. and mexican papers that is way more important. Fishing line and bait is a no-brainer, You really want to check out you tripm plan with an experienced boater and someone that is knowledgeable with current mexican fishing regulations and permits fees etc. I wish that I could really help specifically with a contact but that and safety is the only thing that you have control over , the fishing will be great don't worry, the best trips are the ones that don't kill you, or end up in a Tijuana prison gang bang !!!
