Hey guys, I just got my first deckhand style rod with the cork handle. What are everyone's opinion on the handle and attaching your rod? Do you use some type of covering where your rod goes and if so, what kind? Or just slap it on the cork and go? Thanks!
I just slap it on loosely, then aligne to my liking and clamp it in place. Distance to the butt is from my elbow to the palm and add 3-6 inches to tuck under my pit.
Once you figure out where you like the reel you can put on a chunk of heat shrink or get fancy and use some X tube.
I've also seen guys that will lay on a nice Turks head then a solid wrap of small diameter Tuna cord and another Turks head. Neat kookung application I'll see if I can find where the pic was and link it for you.
Yeah, placement is not my concern, I was just curious if anybody had used the X tube or Rod Wrap that Chark sells. JanZ, I have seen many rods with the tuna cord and Turk's head, seen some very creative wrappings, one that sticks in my head is a diamond wrap with perpendicular wraps interupting the diamond and then over-wrapped with shrink tube, quite a grip!
