Hello All,

I bought two Avet LX 2 speed reels thinking I would use them whenever needed and one would be available for my son when he joins me...but he is a Lefty and I wanted to know if it possible to convert a RH Avet to a LH? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Al

It is possible to convert a RH Avet into a LH Avet but you're talking a few bucks -- at least new gears and a new dog. I'd call Avet and ask what they charge -- then just get a new LH for your son. If you can't spoil your son, who can you spoil??

If you just bought it, exchange it for a lefty.
Cost a whole hell of a lot less. Although they only make lefts in silver, as I recall.

Al,

If you only need to crank the reel lefty, it is doable, but you would probably need to replace the drag disk/anti reverse assembly. The drag lever would still adjust backwards(clockwise) like a Cals 2speed conversion. Converting the drag to left hand (counterclockwise) would require replacing the sideplate, male/female drag cam assembly, and probably the frame as well. You can call Avet, they can connect you with an engineer, but I think you would be better off selling the righty and buying a lefty.

He'd be better off learing to use a right handed reel. That way the stronger hand is pulling on the rod and the weaker is turning the handle... like with a spinning rod! That way you also don't have to move the rod to the other hand after casting.
