i tried to mount a saltist 40 on my ulua with no luck. it seems that the reel clamp screws are too narrow. do i need some offset screws, different reel base, or a different reel??
Your correct the Saltist 40 will not fit on the Ulua. The reel clamp it self is too narrow. A 50 sized reel foot will fit onto a 40 sized reel but it looks like the reel foot is pressed onto the reel, like the foot has been riveted onto the reel frame. You may need to contact Daiwa and see if they can replace the reel foot with the Saltist 50 size. If not it may be time to pick up another reel.
It's the reel foot that is too narrow not the clamp. The screws are too close together to fit over the Ulua on the saltist 40's reel foot its self, it is not just a clamp issue.
looks like i might have found a solution to my problem. im going to try using offset screws from a saltist 30 and clamp it down with an aftermarket clamp. there might be one issue though, i dont remember if the offset screws have bolts that secure the screws to the reel foot. if theres no screws then it might not be secure and the reel could come off the rod on a good fish
The 30t screws attach the same way as the 40 they have the bolt type head to mount to the reel. The only differance is that the bolts on the saltist 30 is offset and this may work for you.
