I'm new when it comes to Tuna Jigging and I need some advice on gear I need.

Now I must first say, I only go for Tuna (Yellow fin) once maybe twice a year and have a limited budget.

My fishing is done on Party Boats and most fish are in the 40-60 pound range with a few 90s mixed in.

I was thinking along the lines of the Penn Baja for a reel and a Calstar West Coast series WC-670H-C. On most trips I have been on the favorite Jigs are Hammered Diamonds in the 6-10 ounce range. So any rod I get will have to handle this type of weight.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

Please remember I am on a tight budget.

if you hammering fish that size on party boats your doing pretty good,but with jigs that size it sounds more like your yo yoing instaed of tossing irons or jigging, but anyway i use a 800h for tossing irons with a jx 2 speed, you can cast forever on this setup, and if you going to yo yo, or even fish dropper loops you have 2 speeds to play with,, you can either fish 40# or 50# on this setup..

I think that you jig tuna in the North East . On our boat we use 6/0 Senators and 80 lb mono. The longer and stiffer the rod the better . Capt Mike Bogan jigged five on Sat./Sun. trip on the Gambler (New Jersey ). Four Longfin and one 75lb YFT . I use a 4/0 and 60 lb with an 8ft.40 to 80lb Uglystick . Some guys like to use 2 speeds and I have an Avet ex 4/0 2 speed that I might use . We do sort of Yo Yo out here .

A dropper loop is a loop you can form before the terminus of your fishing line which can be used to attach weights, additional hooks, etc.

try the 765xl with a penn 20 2 speed, good set up for yoyo, its light and the reels are not that expensive.
