I'm going on a 2.5 day trip aboard the Sea Adventure 80 on 8/12. I've been on overnight and mostly 3/4, 1/2 day boats. So this will be my first long range(?) trip. As far as setup, I only have a few rods/reels.
Here's what I have at home:
Calstar GF700h w/ saltist 40
SuperSeeker D8 w/ newell 335
Seeker inshore csw 808 w/ newell 220
Seeker 270-8 w/ sealine 30
196-8 w/ sealine 20
270 w/ baitrunner.
I'm not sure which ones to bring. I guess I'll definitely need to heavier stuff. Do I need a 20# setup? If so, is the csw 808 be enough with the newell 220 and maybe have spectra backing on it? Do I need anything else?
40# Calstar GF700h w/ saltist 40
30# SuperSeeker D8 w/ newell 332
20# Seeker 270-8 w/ sealine 30
Get Crazy, bring all your junk!!!HAVE FUN!!!!
Crown Victoria's advice is excellent. I might suggest keeping your eye on fish counts a few days before you go. While not always accurate, it will likely indicate target species; hence, what you ought to take.
Best of luck to you!
One last thought. On an overnight trip we took about 6 years ago, we ran into BFT. I've learned from that trip that it's a good idea to take a 40lb outfit regardless of target species.
I often wonder how many BFT I would have caught if I had a 40lb outfit with us. As it was, I landed one...using a 25lb (albie) outfit.
Thanks for the advice.
