Guys, I know I am going to have to go on a longer trip for the hoo's. That is a dream that will take a couple of more years of savings. I am using the 5 day trips just to hone some skills that are currently none existent. Plus it allows me to add to my gear inventory that is also currently on the sparse side.
Big Gabe, the Saltiga's are a bit pricy arent they? I hear they are good though. For by your words you will be aquitted, and by your words you will be condemned. Matt 12:37 |

A couple of reels you might consider.
The Baja Special, narrow open top 4/0 great reel, I own one and it's well built and has tons of drag. The 500 series Newell, another tried and true reel that's gone the distance with a lot of fishermen, in your case the 533 is what I'd suggest. Another tank reel is the Daiwa 600. None of these are budget breakers and are proven reels and are also easy to maintain by you while on your trip. Take a few Maintenance items for your reels on the trip...Drag washers, reel grease a spare bearing or two. I worked longrange years ago and more than once did midnite reel repairs for the customers so they could fish thier favorite reel the next day. If one of your reels drags takes a dump you'd pay a hundred bucks for a new set down there. This message has been edited.
