Guys, I am in the last planning phases for my 1st ever 5 day trip late next month. Here is what iron is currently in my box. Tell me what else I need: Sumo, Jr.: (1) Blue/White, (1) Blue/Silver, (1)Scrambled Egg
IMO, a Tady 45 in mint should always be in the arsenal. Call Point Loma Sportfishing, H&M Sportfishing, or Fisherman's Landing and they will tell you the "hot" colors and which lures to have.
Louie arent you the one that had the garage full of iron. Now I know how you got it, lol. Just suggestions. I trust the man in the brown suit just nicely. Seriously, guys need some suggestions.

Last year, at the ridge, mayhem was uncorked when one of the dudes hooked a fresh one on a sardine. The chaos was worse than average, so I decided to head to the bow with a 3 oz diamond jig, until the guys overcame the adrenalin rush and a proper tuna shuffle was restored. I dropped the jig to wet my line in preparation for a cast, and almost immediately hooked a nice football YFT that I got to the boat but lost because I didn't announce color soon enough, and tried to walk the fish to the stern. The next cast from the bow I got a little wahoo (estimated maybe 25 lbs) to the boat, but the line broke. Grabbed some more 3 oz diamond jigs and a 2 oz, and headed back to the bow. Three more casts, three more little who to the boat, two more jigs lost. Cast 6 and I boated a nice YFT (30 lbs). Exasperated by losing jigs I tied on a little wire leader. Perhaps 4 casts later, with nothing, I replaced the wire/jig with the 2 oz tied on the mono (better to lose a jig than catch nothing). Nothing. Then I moved to the stern and started slinging bait. The bite was over...
1) I recommend several 2, 3, and 4 oz diamond jigs for small YFT and hoo. Worked a lot better than bait during the brief bite.
2) Apparently wire hurts the action and/or spooks the fish.
3) This year I am taking diamond jigs up to 10 oz, but I replaced all the factory hooks:
a) almost half of the jigs now have an Owner treble in same size as original factory hook;
b) almost half of the jigs now have an Owner open eye single hook (for the hoo);
c) two 2 oz and two 3 oz jigs now have a bent hook and surgical tubing tail (one of each size yellow, one each with green)--never tried them, yet.
Diamond jigs are inexpensive and durable, and they cast like a bullet... Take a few! :-)
now this jig here is a tady tlc blue/chrome. if you notice the single hook, i like to use it for the slide or surface jigging for albacores and yellows, i occasionaly get bluefins.
this one is my favorite for night time, its also a tady 9 blue/chrome with a glow backing. i use it for what ever wants to hit it at night, great for bluefins,yellows,yellowfins,groupers etc.
these 2 are also my favorite, birdshit and babyshit, they are also made by salas jr 6x. if your going to cedros and you probably will, those are the yellowtail killers.its what i use at the islands.
Fosho, your attachments are not coming through for me. Earlier, I saw your posted pic of the lures at home, but your pics in this thread are -- well, i get a red circle with a slash through it, rather than the pic. Did you do something different?
