I've always used plastic dipped Lycra work gloves for fishing with Spectra but I think it's time for an upgrade. Any suggestions as to what brand and type of glove for LR trips and "local" albacore and halibut...the real butt, Pacific halibut, not the "tiny" California butt? I don't like my finger tips covered but a thumb might be a good idea....DUH!!! Remind self to NOT put thumb on spool when a wahoo is heading the other way as fast as it can swim.

I used the Bluefever LR gloves. These have open fingers, but also has the spectra proof material on the index finger and thumb. I think they are about $25. You might consider getting 1 size smaller than you think. I have very large hands and nearly got the XXL but got the XL and they fit fine.

Me too, Outhouse. I also have a pair of Izors that I got from Chark. Bluefever offer more protection than Izor, but are less comfortable: Izor stretch more in unprotected parts. Bluefever are a lot more similar to my rowing or maountain biking gloves than are Izor. Regardless of brand, I also use the blue tape on exposed digits, especially thumb.

If you need something for your thumb, check out the Thumb-dinger at Chark's. I would think that it would be great for AK halibut.

I'll try yours when I'm up next week. Gloves, boots and wives should all be tried out before committing.

Agate D,
I looked at the Thumb-Dinger but I need protection for my fingers too, I hate line cuts.
