Need some input on different lines. I have a avet lx 2spd that i am going to rig with 65# spectra and a topshot of 50 # mono.
The izor line on it is a few years old but was only used once. Do you think i should take a chance on it or respool? Next due to budget problems which spectra would you pick if you were just going on a 30 hr party boat trip ? Probably do a little reef/ structure fishing and some blackfin at night. Are there any benifits to color of mono? right now i have blue big game and some green. |

Fishing night, I like a clear line. On the Spectra, Izor is what I use, JB is also a very good line. I don't consider the cost too much with Spectra given it's going to be on the reel for literally years. On the mono topshot, you can make a case for a respool. The line may be fine, but then again it might not be up to snuff after being coiled for so long a time. If the reel has been stored indoors, hasn't had much sunlight or temperature swings I doubt you've lost strength, but you may have some memory issues. Might be a good idea to run some line out while running the boat to your fishing spot, let it loosen up a bit. Then you might be just fine provided the line has not been damaged by sun or temperature.

Remember to let the line out without anything attached to it...JUST LINE....
Big trouble if you attach anything else SDTuna - |

Well i plan on changing the top shot. it has been under a shed out of direct light and wrapped a old t shirt around the reel. But it has been subjected to cold and 100 plus degree weather. for a couple of years.
I was just courious as to the life of the spectra under the mono. |

keep it dry and cleaned from salt.
you should be alright....... spectra life is good for a long while. 5 years is about right, maybe longer. ( depending on how you take care of the reel/ spectra ). THE SILVERWOOD, D.V.L, SKINNER HOE. |

Frankly, I find new line to be cheap insurance, I'd replace the line that you describe, just like I replace a nicked or scraped leader. JMO but it makes me feel secure.
