They already do -- it's called the 300 Torque LD. Right now it's a single speed, but I'll bet they'll come out with a 2-speed version soon.
Tom (BTW, I'm no oracle!) This message has been edited. Last edited by: TGriff, |

Victoria,
Draw a line roughly at $200, and all Penns over that price are made in the USA. More than 30 total models in all from several series, more than ANY other reel company. Other than Newell, no other company is making sub $200 reels in the US. Even saying that in jest will perpetuate the myth. Back to the topic, an engineering drawing does indeed exist for a 12VSX, but no working model has been created. There's a good chance that Mark and other dealers will get to hold a prototype at this summer's ICAST Show. My guess is it's not due to the market until 2009, and the same probably holds true for a 2-speed version of the LD's. PS- an engineering drawing also exists for a TRQ100LD, again the likely debut will be ICAST. |

So Steve, what do you think the difference will be between teh TRQ 300LD and a 12 VSX? Seems to be redundant? Tom |

In actual fishing application you are correct, there would be considerable overlap between a 12VSX and a 2-speed 300LD.
Mechanically and feature-wise, the Torque has the innovative "drag stack" system that no other lever drag reel has. Manufacturing that system will make the LD at least $150 more expensive, and also heavier. Without having gotten to fish with them yet, my opinion is that if you are going to fish with 40 or 50-pound mono topshots, like most people who use Cal-converted 12's do, the 12VSX and 6VSX will be great. If you are doing the more "South Pacific" style jigging with straight 80 or 100-pound spectra and no topshot, and REALLY want to go to high drag settings, the Torque will be better. |
