How does the new Penn line of Torque reels stack up against the Saltiga line? We've been using the Saltiga SA50 with straight 40lb mono with excellent success. I am convinced Saltiga reels will pull up blue whales, well maybe I'm not that gullible...but they are sturdy reels.

Thanks,

Tommy

I think that penn torque are made in america. They probably have longer lasting drags and the Saltigas are lighter and have better freespool. The difference is the drags, and that comes into play whith your strentgh in your fish, the line, and your arms/back. I would like to compare costs but I don't know right off hand (both are'nt cheap), in all the Saltigas are proven to be the top end diawa's Saltwater reels. Penn has a jillion and the VSX16 will cream your yellowtail jeans, at the baja ALIJOS etc. Saltiga's will need their maintenance and that isn't bad , just takes longer to catch out off the bottom.
