First post ever - thanks in advance to the experts here:

Looking for guidance on the best west coast "bass rod" set up. Meaning 10-12 lb conventional reel and a rod that lets me throw light plastics up to crocodile type heavier jigs. To use in San Diego local kelp and also as the light set up down at the East Cape (where I am heading for the first time in 2010).

What is your go-to rig? Thx.

My 12# rigs are a Shimano Teramar TMC-X80M and a 76M with Shimano Calcutta 250's. I use a Curado 200 for 10# on a TMC-X76ML.

You'd probably need a 2-piece rod for flying down to Baja... one-piece 7.5 - 8'ers don't travel too well.

40 lb, 30lb, 25lb. and take your bass pole too, you can go with 4 reels, and 2 rods if you crack out the math. AND DON'T forget a screwdriver!!!
