I just came back on the 5 days trip fishing at Burma Bank(between Thailand, India and Burma). We were jigging for yellowfin, skipjack, wahoo, aberjack, and dogtooth.

I was jigging with sealinex-40 with 50lb spetra with 3 meters of 80lb nylon leader. When hitting a dogtooth, my line was bit off just above the swival.

How do i avoid this problem? Any new setup highly appreciated.

Thanks alot.

A short wire leader might help but it could reduce your hits, give it a try and see.

What port were you fishing out of?
I might have to go to Bangkok to attend my step brothers wedding and if I go I will fish the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. Stepbrother also wants to do some freshwater fishing when I'm there, his future in-laws live west of a large resevour north of Ayutthaya and SW of Phitsanulok.

Have never fished for Dogtooth Tuna so I am only offering a suggestion from deep meditation on the problem ( Scary Huh ) If using Iron try using a longer unit like a Salas 6X so the line end will end up out of the mouth when the fish is hooked otherwise the wire suggestions above seem like the only out.

But, if you are jigging with bait you might try using a Circle Hook. They usually connect in the corner the jaw so that the end of the hook and the line will be out the mouth and away from thoes fangs.

And welcome to the Chark Cage, lotsa good folk here, can learn a lot from these guys. We are all willing to help.

We were actually fishing the burma bank, furthur out from the andaman sea. You go out from the Ranong Port.

Guld of Thailand does not have many game fish. I only has grouper and snappers. I wouldn't recommend it.

Let me know if you need any help on charter boat.I can give you a few recommendation.
