Hello All,

I'm going on the 3 Day Shogun trip and would like some advice on what gear to bring.

I've got most of everything just need to know what sets up are going to be needed and misc like swim baits etc.

Done many LR trips but 1st timer at SCI.

Look forward to a great trip.

Thanks
JOhn

San Clemente, a great local spot to fish. Would reccomend the following.

Two 15-25 lb set ups. One 30 lb set up and one 50-60 trolling rig.

Technique suggestions. Knowing you have lot'sa long range expierence, not trying to instruct or imply you do not know these things but to give some tips that may be helpful, not only to you but to others without your expierence who fish the island.

This close in stuff is a bit different and the expectations are not so high. Here are a couple of general suggestions for the area.
The troll will be disapointing, you could leave the 60 outfit home and use the 30 for the troll but you need the reel lugs for attachment to the boat. For the troll as soon as the sun breaks use bright hoochies Blue/White ... Pink/White. This time of the year it will be primairly Bottom fish, Barracuda, Bonita and if you get lucky a few nice WSB and YT. Be sure to be on deck no later then 5 am and get something down a crank or two off the bottom with your 30 rig. An iron with 2 or 3 Squid attached works well and just sit there. White Sea Bass are active in the early gray and its your best time to tag one. The larger ones come through in small schools. And you want to have an offering waiting there for them to inhale. If you are not the "just sit there type" , take the iron with the squid attached and pitch it out, not too far mabe 20-30 yards and just let is sink stright down, feeding line, keeping contact to it with vary slight tention. Do not try and "JIG" it or impart any action to it, do not reel in until it bottoms out. Just let it flutter down on its own. When it gets picked up by a Rockie or a YT the bite is sharp but when a large WSB picks it up it will be no more than a slight pull on the line. The biggest fish of the trip will most likely be caught in the early gray. IF the bite goes DEAD do not hesitate to drop to 15 lb. Fluoro.

Good luck out there, hope you get a crack at a few YT and WSB.
