| WHY DOES EVERYBODY HATE SPINNING REELS?!?!?!?!
They are just as good, if not better, than conventional's in most situations. I fish them on "party boats" off of South Fl all the time!!! They work fine. I have gotten spooled on an Avet MXL (still my favorite reel) by a 50lb AJ, only to put a bait down on a 760 Slammer, and get worked, but still land the fish. A nice 50+ lb amberjack. My point is that spinning reels are just as good in my opinion. The only disadvantage is the gear ratio. Which I know isn't good fishing tuna. But on something like tarpon, kingfish, even wahoo, they are GREAT, as long as you dont have to seriously crank down on a fish.

| Anyone who can't see the times when spinning tackle is useful is missing the boat. For tossing poppers at fish in the 100 lb range a GOOD QUALITY spinner works very well. They also work well vertical jigging when the fish want a fast moving jig. I don't see the baitrunner as a good choice. If you want a Shimano, the Stella or more affordable Saragosa would be better choices. |
