I have posted a similar question about my near mint 21 year old 113h reel. My original question asked whether this reel was worthy of upgrading through the use of a Tiburon frame.

I am still toying with that idea and then wondered how this reel, upgraded with the Tiburon frame would compare to the Baja Special. What would the Baja Special have that my upgraded reel wouldn't have? As always, thanks for the input, you guys are tops.

If your 113H is an older model, it likely has a heavy steel or chromed brass spool making it harder to cast than the aluminum spool on a 113HN. The 113HN also has faster gears and more drag. Plus it's narrow. The 113HN Baja Special is a way better reel. I love mine.

AK, my 113h was bought in 1987 and has been used twice. It looks just like it did when I first took it from the box. The spool is metal of some sort and it is silver in color. Don't know if it steel or the chromed brass.

Outhouse if you were to upgrade the older reel you'd soon find out that you'd have been money ahead to just get the HN.

Comparing your 113H to the 113HN is like comparing a 1963 VW Bug to a modern day Hummer.

Nothing wrong with the 113H, still a great workhorse of a reel but the 113HN is ten times the reel and for what Mark has been selling them for a heck of a bargan.
