Pleasantly small little reel. From the apparent proportions, do I correctly infer that the reel uses ball bearing rather than thrust bearings, in the manner of Avet?

No rush to answer, just curious.

I do not believe the Valiant -- or any Accurate reel for that matter -- use a thrust bearing. Twin drag reels don't need one. By putting drag washers on both sides of the spool, the side load pressure is all but eliminated so you don't fry the pinion bearing with too much drag. Single drag lever drag reels **all** have a potential problem with side load and the pinion bearing when they are fished beyond their specs.

Well, yes, but is the Valiant in fact a twin drag reel? It's not so described here (did I miss that?) I'll go check Accurrate's website.

Yes, by golly, I did miss that. A twin-drag design it is, and so described here.

Neat bit of engineering.
