Greetings - I am building a new tuna livebait/light jiging rod on a Calstar 700H blank to fish a 40 pound top shot. I will be using an Avet LX, two speed reel. So my question: I was not going to use roller guides, but rather regular guides. Seems like most folks don't worry about rollers until they get to 50# or larger. Is this a poor idea? Thanks for all suggestions, MrFish

personally-I like an Aftco roller tiptop on 40 and above. Saves a little on line wear on seesaw fights. Casts just like a ring top, too.

Thanks Agate D. It wouldn't be a big deal to swap out my top guide for a roller. Anyone have a good reason why it wouldn't make sence to have a roller there? MrFish

Mr Fish, IMO... Add two roller guides one on the tip and one as a stripper(closest to the reel). This provides a friction smooth set up and does not effect casting SDTuna -
