Next month (Mar.), the ling (cobia, lemon fish, crab-eaters,etc) should start their annual migration from Florida waters to points West. Here in L.A. (Lower Alabama)sight casting to fish moving on the surface is the usual modus operandi. I however do not have a tower on my 22',and standing on the center console in rolling seas leads to broken hind quarters. I'm going to be researching the net for current movements along the beach front. West to East with light winds should be my ticket. Find a buoy, and start making a racket with the Chum Churn. The current should drift the pogie bits into their faces.
I built an 8' G.U.S.A. Wahoo blank and put a Stella 20000 loaded with 65# Power Pro on it. 25" wind-on #100 leader and a 10/0 Gami circle. If this combo works, it may be relief for those of us in the mosquito fleet. I'll relay results. Two fish is all my family (5) will need for the season, so if you hit, don't abuse the resource. If N.M.F.S. is to be believed ( I don't) folks in the Western Gulf don't have snapper, so let a few ling go West. |
