Hellooo fellow fisherman... Being new to the board, I first want to thank you for the hours of good information and humor from reading past posts. Some of y'all are crazy. lol

I was spoiled to offshore fishing for tuna, yellowtail, etc. in the 1980's while living in southern Ca. My first couple of trips were Rock Cod, now I'm hooked on Fish Tacos, lol. I am now land locked in Oklahoma but fly in to San Diego every year to get in at least 1 3-4 day trip.

I have fished only the Searcher since the early 90's. I have read posts regarding the Searcher as "not that good", "unfriendly", "that's the last time on the Searcher", etc... I've never had a bad time on the Searcher but maybe I don't know any better. Last year I brought home 240 lbs of yellowfin fillets. I was happy.

What am I missing? Are other boats better? I would like to make a change if there is a difference. I have noticed on the Searcher: They seem to fish very hard, a little older boat, the crew changes often, cabins are small but OK, meals are fairly good, I've always caught fish, prices are good in comparison.

This year I want to book a couple of trips using the holidays as an extra day off. I have always use a weekend plus a holiday. This being the days around July 4th and Labor Day. Would you suggest another boat, different dates, more days(are tough to do), private charters. Any advice or comments?

As a Business owner myself in the hunting industry, I give great concern to anyone, who has such a high turnover rate. ie: crew turnover.

In a nutshell, these Vessels have crews that stay for many, many years. Joey Conrad for example, on the Royal Star.....8 years with them.

These are the other vessels with long term crews.
Excel, Shogun, Polaris Supreme, Roayal Polaris, Red Rooster III, Qualifier 105, Royal Star. There are others as well.

For a great productive 4-5 day trip, with years of high, high fish counts, get on the Bears Tackle charter, on the Spirit of Adventure.

Welcome to the board Reel,n Rod. A good place hang out. No Flamers, no belligerants, every one is willing to offer their opinions in a respectful way. And the Charkster has a agreat Tackle Shop. Fair pricing and great service. Got something to say or question to ask, just jump in, the water is warm.

Have you looked at the Vagabond? The boat has a following like you would not believe. Owner/Skipper Mike Lackey has a sterling reputation. Have not fished it personally, but the Vag is alwasy on top of the short ranger's list.

THAT'S RIGHT! In fact.....last year, on an 8 day trip when the tuna, REALLY BIG, BIG tuna were on the chew, down in 10 day range, Mike asked the guests onboard if they wanted to roll the dice and make the run?????

Hands down they said yes...The results. 8 over 200 pounds with the holds plugged with 100-199 pounders as well.

Mike is a great guy. I taugh him well and he learned quickly. As did Olliebear. He was my best pupil.

Morgan Freeman is my wife. Yea that's the ticket.
I had the queen.
I run Microsoft.
Starbucks was my idea.

Thanks for the information. I've got a call in to the Vagabond now for a June 27th trip that looks good. The Spirit of Adventure has a Labor day trip that interest me also. It's high time I discovered some new boats and crews to fish with.
