Anyone going on the trip? (Nov.5 to 15)Looking for info. on what is most used live bait hook on a 10day? what is best for wahoo? I have been on many 5day trip first 10 day.

There's some variance on the hooks, based on the bait used. We will have lots aboard, but will also make bait during the trip. That can be small mackerel, or some larger sized fin-bait too, perhaps squid as well. So, I like to have bases covered from 2/0-7/0 size with perhaps a few hooks in the 10/0-12/0 in my bag. For the wahoo, bombs and iron!

Larger YFT (if they show up) 75% of the time I have a 4/0 Mutu hook tied on. This size works for sardine as well as average mackerel. If there are larger maks jump up to a 5/0. Last trip,a 15 day, we caught some BIG MAKS and I had to use 8/0 and 10/0 Mutu's and 9/0 7691 hooks.

Misc "trash fish" (not realy, YT and Dodo's are fun to catch) 3/0 and 4/0 Mutu or Mustad Demon Circle hooks or 3/0 and 4/0 Mustad 94150
Toss in a few 7/0 and 9/0 Mustad 7691 for Dropper loop.


Wahoo live bait #2-2/0 "J" hooks, Mustad 94150 work but should be sharpened before using them. I prefer Gamakatsu "Live Bait" in #2 and #1/0 a close second is Owner Gorilla in the same sizes.

Wahoo Trolling, Marauders are the best choice, pick your brand, a dark, black and purple, and a light, either "Tony The Tiger" or "Ahi" is all you need. Last trip I couldn't keep my marauder in the water for longer than 5 minutes without getting harassed by hungry and aggressive hoo.
