I recently saw a lot of 20 penn 50 vsx selling on ebay for 300 a piece. Is this a b/s reel made in japan or is the markup up really that high that this guy can afford to off load them dirt cheap
Be careful. There have been far too many "deals" like this on eBay that were scams out of Singapore and other pplaces in the Far East. My guess is legitimate dealers pay very close to $300 -- or more -- for their 50VSX's so I can't imagine anyone making money selling them for that amount.
There is a growing problem with outright "counterfeit" reels the past few years, mostly coming out of various far east countries, although not usually Japan. A recent article in "Tackle Trade World" mentioned that as much as 9-percent of Shimano, Daiwa and Penn being shipped from that area of the world were counterfeit. Abu-Garcia and customs just interecepted nearly 10,000 counterfeit reels headed for market. A new "grey-market" problem has surfaced now that DAM-Quick has rejected for QC issues 15,000 reels that it had sourced in China. The Chinese mfr. intends to try to sell them anyway, and they are in "official" boxes with "official" paperwork. Then there are the outright "frauds" that are just set up to get your personal information and never intend to actually ship anything. Blame it all on E-Bay......or maybe greed. You can protect yourself when you buy from reputable sites and dealers such as Chark's.
question, how do we know the products from the outside world did not interfere with the products here, which means, you walk in to any tackle shop and purchase a reel at top dollars. how do we know if its real reel or outsider.
The "clones" will mostly show up on web only stores and e-bay. This is probably part of the reason that Penn requires a brick and mortar store. (Carson can tell better.) Luckily, many tackle stores[and Chark is a prime example] consider integrity a virtue. Rule always is as always 'If it looks too good to be true-it probably is' I would never buy something that expensive without knowing the boss of the store.
you know, we purchase top dollar reel to have the best of the best, and here comes this person for half the cost, man that pisses me off , who is this person so i can !#$$$ I87%$## &^%&((& u77^%%$#^*((^% 8&^$##%^^&*(( to him.
Louie I had the pictures on an MSN website and I cut and pasted the URL to the picture posting part of this board and BAM! as Emeril says, it was there,
Making Humboldt bay safe for bait one halibut at a time
Yep, watch out for e-bay! I was purchasing a Penn Mag 525 from what I thought was a decent guy, had pretty good feedbacks etc. Well after I pay he doesn't deliver, later I find out after posting neg feedback that literally hundreds got ripped from this guy. Some out big bucks for Penn Internationals etc. I learned my lesson. If I can't connect the deal with a known location. shop etc. the deal ain't going down. Trust the Chark, he's got a reputable staff and isn't a half bad guy!
