I lost my dad, Carl Newell, of Newell Reels and Carl Newell Mfg of Glendale CA, to complications due to pneumonia and alzheimers on Dec 24, 2008. I will remember my dad for his love of life, his love for fishing , his companies and most of all his everlasting love for his "baby doll, his bride" - my mother Sylvia, whom we also lost Nov 2, 2007. I will miss them both. And I know the fishing world has lost a champion in my dad. Going to miss you Pop--Jim and his whole family in Layton UT

Eagle, thank you for sharing your words with us. A few years ago I too lost my dad, and posted my good-bye on our old board, helped me process the loss and move through the grief of loosing someone I loved, respected, and truly liked spending time with. Even with his passing, he was still teaching me and left me with lessons to learn and jobs to do (and the guidance to do 'em). You can be proud of your dad, to have been the son of your father. Carl was a gem, a unique and gifted man, and wonderful human being. My time with him was very brief, but memorable and positive in every way. And, fishing his reels brings those memories back, and gives me something to smile about. The sportfishing community lost a pioneer, you lost a loved father, and the world is a better place because of his many accomplishments in a life well lived. With much respect, Mark Smith

Many years ago I had the honor of meeting Carl on a boat out of San Diego, he was a great fisherman and a giant in the industry. He was a great guy to share a rail with and will be remembered every time some fisherman picks up a rod with a Newell reel on it and launches a jig into another time zone. My condolances to you and your family and may Carl rest in peace. Making Humboldt bay safe for bait one halibut at a time

THanks for sharing. I loved your Dad for his changing the industry and what he stood for. I too, lost my Dad and it's brutal. My thoughts are with you at this tough time in your life. Keep fishing, manufacturing, and keeping Carl alive in your actions. Take care.
