I called the Newell company today for some parts and found out that Carl is very sick and not well off.

For those of you that have ever killed a fish with one of his reels or tossed a jig into another time zone with one please take some time today and send some prayers and good vibes his way.

And even if you don't use the reels send them for a fellow fisherman.

Thanks.

Jan

Ps. If you'd like to send a card...

Thanks to all of you,

I spent a few hours with Carl a few years ago, talking fishing and life, hearing him spin yarns about his youthful experiences and developing his company. I will long charish the honor of having had a conversation with so wonderful a gentleman. He defines that term in my estimation, Gentleman. He has our prayers and our respectful thanks for his many contributions to the sportfishing community.

Sincerely,
Mark Smith

I have a deep respect and admiration for Carl, as he has done such an incredible job with his manufacturing of the Newell Reel line.

He is a true Gentleman and an Ambassador to our Sport.

From Missouri, our prayers are with you.
God Bless the entire Newell family.

These last posts slipped by me-has anyone heard anything? My first Newells were the conversion kits that he sold at the shows.

May well all understand how powerful our prayers are and that they do in fact make a difference.

Each has his own relationship with God but I know form personal experience he always is available to lsiten and hear our prayers.

Carl Newell helped make the indusrty we all are so passionate about. He is part of this great industry and we all are better fishermen because of his passion.

I first met Mr. Newell in '94, but didn't speak to him again until a couple of years ago. At that time, he took time out of his day to show me around the facility there on Allen and spend a big part of the afternoon just talking to me about a number of subjects. Fishing reels were not the center of the conversation, at all. I am no pillar of the sportfishing community, and I don't write for a magazine. I'm just a guy who stops in from time-to-time to get reel parts, and Mr. Newell is always friendly and outgoing. He is a class act.

He and his family are in my prayers.

Crown, yeah, and in my experience he is part of the last few generations of jammin' good dudes. I miss my old friends at the university, when they ran the ship--well, those were the good ole days. Jammers are hard to find in the city in which I live, have to go out to the country, where farmers and ranchers are still real men, not rats in suits.

AND ALSO WITH YOU! And, with all...
