There seems to be a few people on this forum that seem to make it their mission in life to bash Avet products. Why?

Lots of views, no replies....I must be imagining things now. I guess 110 degree heat has an effect.

Maybe they have had some isolated problems with their reels? I own an EXW 30/2 and two JX 2 speeds and love them all. I also have a 50 wide 2 speed but haven't used it yet and plan to buy a Hoo X this year as well. Thus far Avets have not let me down.......

Feeling lonely?
I am in the car biz Fish so I will equate this to cars. I love my little avets my SX/MX and my JX is a great reel. I liken them to Toyotas, dependable and fairly priced, for what you get.
Now lets take this a step further, if I wanted a sportscar I could argue the Corvette is the greatest, maybe even a 350Z dollar for dollar. Been there, done that, got the t-shirts...
But when it all comes down to it, There is no substitute for a Porsche.

Having spent most of my fishing years with Penn 500's-I personally think avets are my Porsches. I think that the bashers spent more for their equipment and perhaps need to justify the extra expense.

Some people do Newells the same way, I don't own any Avets as I have a problem with aluminum around saltwater, a lot of folks own them and are happy with them and I think thats great, I'm happier with the stuff I have and that's a good thing too.

The Avet board on Bloody Decks is always good for a laugh or two if one want's to pull someones chain. Some folks get right up on thiere tippytoes quick about the Avets.

I'd have to say that there are a whole lot more Avet supporters on this board than detractors. Mark has always been a big supporter of Avet.

I don't own any Avet reels but they've come a long way in a short time with a good quality product and outstanding custoomer service from everything I have heard or seen.

If there were any bashing around here, I'd have to say it was against Shimano. Deserved or not Shimano gets hit pretty hard.

I have never fished them. I did witness a 16 yr old boy on my Christmas trip landing a 276 pound Tuna on an Avet. Awesome fish and reel.

Alot of the guys were using these reels.

Hey, thanks everyone for the opinions. I own 7 avets from the mx up to the exw. I have had no problem with them and was just wondering why some people had such a problem with them. I think Avet has made the fishing equipment industry jump into the modern age rather than resting on their laurels. Accurate started the movement, but unless you wanted to take a second on the house to buy some good fishing reels, you were s.o.l. Avet stepped forward and brough good, solid aluminum reels at very good prices to the market. Penn is now catching on with their recent rash of new reels like the Torgue, and the VSX line. Accurate is going back and 2-speeding their original line of smaller reels because Avet showed that the market for small, lightweight 2 speed reels was there. Ah, I think I need to step off the soapbox....just my opinon.

Avet equals real value for your dollar.
Now that I'm older & in a position to afford about any reel I want, and I own virtually every major brand of reel.Money in Money out it's the BEST VALUE for your dollar.
As far as aluminum holding up under saltwater conditions the only analogy I can use is: I USE toilet paper after getting off the throne...

I do have one Avet question...

What do you think of Avet's new practice of gluing the drag washer to the outside of the spool?

The way I understand it is if you need to replace the drag washer the reel or at least the spool needs to go back to Avet and or you need to have a spare spool/drag assembly on hand if you intend to continue to use the reel.

This one kinda had me scratching my head as to the why of it.

Avet is a new to the fishing reel industry and have made a few "errors". I think this has something to do with it and there's probably some product loyality involved. They do make a nice reel and their coustomer service is as good as it gets.

Jan,
I think that they are trying to cure the corosion problem caused by the discimalar metals, SS retainer in contact with the aluminum. If the glue comes off easy when it comes time to replace the drag washer I don't see a problem.

I have had no problems with minw and most have been on 2 ten day trips and most are fished hard for albacore for 5 months here in Oregon, this is a good track record as I own 14 Avets compared to 2 Newells and 5 Accurates. though I have had no real problems with any of these reels.

Some people just have to bitch about anything and everything even sometimes when the malfunction was from there own neglect.

I might be a strange one - but I fish 2 brands of reels. Newells and Avets, never had any problem with either. The one I decide to fish at any given time, just depends on which way the wind is blowing! I love'm both and consider both real value for the money. Have more years with the Newells obviously. However, the Avets for what they sell for are a steal - and are as dependable as my Newells!
