This past weekend I bought an awesome reel Avet MXL 2 speed at a great price. (The gold one Chark has on special.)

I have it loaded with 50# spectra and 25# top shot mono. I intend to use the reel for live bait fishing from a private boat for yellowtail, wsb, and hopefully albacore someday...

What is a good rod for this setup that won't break the bank...I mean my bank!

Thanks for a great site and a great store!!!

Or a 700M, although I might bump up the topshot a bit having recenly caught those fish on mine.

For flylining live bait with 25# the Seeker Black Steel G970 is perfect. For a heaver 25 and perfect 30# rod, the Seeker Black Steel G670 is perfect. I'd go with 30# on the MXL-2 and put it on the G670.

My MX is set on a CalStar WC270, but I run straight 20 lb. mono. Maybe a WC870 would suit.

I bought the sc 665 today ...perfect rod for the reel. The guys at the store are all great...we were all in there bending rods and discussing the variations of each for at least 1/2 hour!
