I am looking at buying a 19' open bow I/O tri-hull for taking fishing trips to Catalina and Coronado Islands this summer. Is this gonna be able to make the voyages? Any advise from seasoned veterens would be apprecited? Also your thoughts on the 19' Bayliner cuddy cabin? THANX
The open bow boats will likely catch much over spray in the bow on anything like the normal afternoon chop. That's what I hear from the neighbors with that style of boat, trihull-open bow.

Early mouring or late evening if the wind is down. the bayliner may be a better choice for open water,I would personly would save the trihull for inshore or the lakes&rivrs. also a Mike
it all comes down to conditions and weather of course.if youve never made the voyage out that far,,go with someone that has.ive known people going in a 19 ft. seaswirl tri hull on good conditions.i went to anacapa island from ventura in a 25ft.bayliner cabin cruiser its only a 11 mile trip one of the most scariest boat rides i ever been on once you get in that santa barbara channel .i wouldnt cross it in my boat.good luck and be carefull--rich
thanx for the input. i really do appreciate it. as long as i know others have made it i feel hopeful.ill have the gps and vhf. and if conditions are perfect im gonna go for it. thanx.
Coronados maybe if conditions were right and you got back before afternoon swells kicked in with a 19 footer - Catalina I am not so sure about. Friend had a 24 ft Blackman, really nice fish machine and we got shook around good on some trips coming back from Catalina. These were days when all was smooth going out. I believe the best advice you got so far was to try the round trip once and then judge it.
The Catalina Channel can get very snotty on very short notice. You are asking for trouble with the open bow. Your will probably be ok on flat calm days, but you can't count on the conditions not changing. The ocean has many ways to kill you, please don't help her out.
