My inlaws are taking the entire family 16 of us to Paradise Point Resort in San Diego Middle part of July. I need some 411 on that area and some suggestions...

#1 I'm going to go out on a day trip one of the days with my brother in law and I know that area has tons of charters going out right from the resort area.
#2 I'm seeing there is some decent shore/bank fishing in walking distance so I'll get in a morning or evening or three of that as well.

Question one - who knows anything about my charter options in that area and what are my best options?

Question two - anyone know anything about the area around the resort within walking distance that I can hit?

Question three - Suggested gear or target fish?

I'll be driving down so I can carry several rods and from what I can tell so far my striper gear is all I'll need yes/no?

Paradise Point is located on Mission Bay and has a bridge on both the south and north entrance to the resort. Both of these bridges can be fished from the shore (it is rocky though) and can produce a variety of fish. Your bread and butter fish in Mission Bay is Spotted bay bass but you can also get halibut, croaker, sand bass and a whole array of other species.

As far as charters it depends if you want a private charter or a party boat. Searoth Landing is very close and runs half day, 3/4 day and on the weekends overnight trips. you can google them and check out their website. if you are looking for a private charter i would go to Dana landing, located just across the southern bridge from your resort.
For local inshore fishing you really wont need anything over a 25lb setup for live bait and jigging, for the bay I like to fish 8lb but some guys like up to 12lb.

Seaforth has come up from other sources too.

sounds like 3 - 5 inch big hammers on 1/2 oz - 1 oz heads are the most recommended and I can get those at the bait shops near the hotel so I get hot colors.

On a 3/4 day party trip I was thinking take my striper gear and have

a swimbait set up with 20# braid (with or without a 10-20# fluro/mono leader?)
A bait set up medium heavy medium fast rod same line est up but 15-20# mono leader for sure.

Figure if I take those two for both of us we are in good shape on a kelp bed trip Yes?

Yeah it looks like your all set. Lots of guys who fish plastics tie straight to braided line with no leader, it cuts through the kelp and the fish dont seem to mind. Fishing live bait a flouro leader is the way to go. Local reports show the barracuda bite picking up so you might want to be prepared for the toothy critters with some shiney surface metal.
