Nothing "stupid" about it.

I prefer uncoated Spectra for most uses but coated spectra works beter for me when fishing deep for Pacific halibut. I feel there is less drag on the 65lb coated than on hollow and when fishing 500'+ any advantage helps.

Here in Florida, my limited experience with braid has me breaking them into two catagories:

1. Coated

2. Uncoated

I've found that the "coated" stuff like PowerPro, Tuffline and Sufix are better on spinning reels where I'm trying maximize my casting distance. The "uncoated" stuff like Spectra works best on conventional reels.

Tightlines,

Tom

For me it's coated vs. uncoated. Powerpro vs. Izor, JB & Blackwater. I like the stiffer coated lines for bottom fishing applications and the uncoated for use as backing.
