ever aboarded a boat and see everyone bringing in there rod and tackle , and you find one guy bringing in 20 rods or more? how doe that effect everyone on board. (1) IS THIS PERSON ALLOWED TO TAKE UP THE RACK TO LEAVE OTHERS WITH LESS ROD HOLDER/ OR TAKE IT TO THE UPPER DECK, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT. OR AM I BEING PREJUDICE. ![]() COMING TO YOU LIVE !!

you are allowed to bring as many as you want, some guys just over do it a little, also depends how many days the trip is, but i say 20 is too much, on a 5 day i took 13 setups, which at the end of the trip i figured it maybe 5 too many, even for a 5 day trip.. on 1 1/2 day trips i'll take maybe 6. and for a 5 day trip maybe 6 or 7 setups..most guys take back up setups in case the bite is on and they snap a line or something and can go grab a setup that is ready to go. Interesting thread... I was told in my early years to have the right tackle for the class and species fishing for no matter how many days. Then seek wisdom from others on what they really use the most based on experience. Trouble is that two years a go the ten day multi species fishing took on a world class tuna focus and it was all 100# and up tackle. On the top gear say 100 # and up have two rigs set up due to the uncertainty of disaster and a reel or rod getting smoked or even worse it gets pulled over the side. I learned that during a WFO bite you better have two rigs ready to go at all times. All you do is put the set up on the rack and grab a new one already rigged so you toss the lure or grab bait. So there is no end to the combinations but double up on the basic set up recommended for the trip or rent/borrow gear to have back ups. The longer the trip the more important this philosophy comes into play. SDTuna -

On my last rip, Dec.26, 2006, there were 5-6 guys who had in the range of 20 rods for a 10 day. Then, factor in that our sponsor, brought 50 rods of all size groups for everyone to use. This was a logistical nightmare to say the least for getting around. I personally stowed my excess in my cabin. Not on deck for the others to stumble over.

Wow, 20! I do a lot of 2-3 dayers, I take 6 set-ups, a 20, 2-30's, 1-40, 1-50, and 1 troller. When the bite is wfo, it is nice to have the 30's and 40's so I can simply switch when I have a tangle break or snapped line. It does get crazy though when all of the holders are full. The thing I hate more than anything is when the bite is wfo and dummies leave their rod on the rail to go get a bait, or lean it against the bait tank and go get another hook, leader, etc.

It's worse when you go to use yer brand new SKB Tackle box, only to find 4 seperate morons have decided to put their rods in the rocket launchers. I swear, this happened on my last trip. In a wfo, I had to remove 4 OTHERS rods from MY, MY tackle box to change gear. I was severly tempted to throw them over the rail. There is a lack of respect for others and their belongings by a select 1/2% of the folks who go LR. It is still less than the day boats. I started there. GEEES. That was a nightmare.

You're only allowed 10 rods in Mexico. Some boats assign you some spots along the side and the rest have to go up top somewhere.

All these issues plus roomates from hell to salad bowl tipping on top of very high prices are motivating me to consider Gulf Coast or East Coast. In fact, I have been told by some regulars in my local shops some of hte long time folks are opting to fly down to PV or other Mexicna ports rather than 10-16 day trips where half you money and time goes to the taxi ride.

I bring 10>12 rigs with me ,most boats assign the fisher with (3) spots near the fishing area and all extra foward of the last no. I keep all my extra on the upper deck tied down and also use the upperdeck for major rigging because of the extra room . My 2cents Mike

It always amazes me at the crap folks bring onboard. I caught more fish than almost, I said almost, everyone on my last trip. I used 1, just 1, 130# outfit and it got the job done. I can cut, and re-crimp another hook in next to no time and still, get back out there to hit more trophies. Then, I used 2 50# rigs and that was it. Period. I took with me, 2 50 lb out fits. 1 40 lb outfit 1 30 lb outfit and a boat rental...1 and only 1, 130 lb outfit. Done. The fella's with the many. many, many rigs, were very, very busy, tying and retying most of their down time. In defense of the guys with all the rods... 3 guys were always prepared for anything, " Coach ", Frank our Newel Sponsor and Kerry, a wonderful Teacher and fisherman from the North Country. Their use of multiple rigs was extrordinary.

WELL I UDERSTAND EVERYONES POINT HERE, BUT WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY{ FOR AN EXAMPLE ) your on a longrange every one been assigned 10 holder , as the days go by your down to 5 or 6 holder , because everyone or some people bring there rods from upstairs and to lazy to put it back upstairs when finish using thats what i dont appreciate. ![]() COMING TO YOU LIVE !!

For the most part - I believe you'll see fellow anglers respect the rod space situation on the boat. Of course, you'll always have to deal with the 20 rod guys - that hasn't caught a fish on most of those rods - typically thats the same guy who carrys 2-3 SKB boxes on the boat with tackle thats never made it out of the box. If you want to spot the "stick" on the boat - look for the guy bringing 1 simple tackle box, 6-8 rods - each with its own purpose - he'll use them all on 5-10 day and most of the time you'll find him on the bow - away from tangles, crossed lines, and yahoos picking out birdnests on every cast. You'll deal with one situation or another on every long range trip - my fulfillment comes from teaching a newbie some tricks and techniques to make their trip one to remember. Long Range fishing is a true passion - but private boat fishing sure has its advantages. RV

REELVEAL , IM ASSUMING YOU HAVE YOUR OWN OPERATION( FISHING CHARTER ). IF SO WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SPECIALTY. ![]() COMING TO YOU LIVE !!

Louie, No - not a fishing charter - just a private boat with monthly payments. It's a 30ft Skipjack that holds just over 300 gallons of diesel - which will put me on the fish around all the So Cal islands and Mexico waters. I like to hunt Seabass, yellows, and halibut at the islands - even been known to pull on some hoop nets for lobster last couple of seasons. I'm offshore from July-October in search of albacore, yellowfin, bluefin, yellowtail, dorado and marlin - still looking to land my first so cal swordie - current score is 3 baited/1 hooked/0 landed. Good luck on your white sea bass hunt. RV
