No need for exact locations just approximate areas. We're all one big family. We have amixed bag of locations. Just want to know who to talk to when i travel to another spot on the map about local fishing stuff.
I'm OC California like alot of peeps here and I Visit Charks shop about once every 2 weeks.
I have mostly fished salmonoids (Chinook, Atlantic, and Coho salmon, Steelhead including Skamania, and Brook/Rainbow/Brown/Lake trout).
There is a spring run of two weeks, and a fall run of two weeks, when you catch so many fish your arms go limp--the rest of the time, fishing is "relaxing". The best fishing is on natural streams, in the holes in front of dams (closest spots are one hour north in Wisconsin, or two hours east in Michigan). Spawn sacks and wolly bugger flies are best. In the best bites 8 lb test line will work. When the water flow is low, or the water is cold, 4 lb test is the ticket. Waders are required!
There are giant sturgeon (brief season), and irradiated (sterilized) coho salmon have been commercially netted in Lake Michigan to 80 pounds (that is a BIG coho).
The perch fishery is trying to recover.
Anyone wanting the best fishing anywhere around Chicago should contact the Saint Joseph Chamber of Commerce (Michigan).
Iggy, I'm a loooong way from the OC, out here in New England. I mainly fish the Cape Cod area in a small (18ft) boat. Due to a neck injury, I am now limited to left-hand retrieve, so I started surfing the westcoast tackle boards for info on left-hand reels. At this time, only Avet and Accurate carry a full line of left-hand saltwater reels, and Chark is one of the only dealers on-, or off-line who regularly stocks a full line of lefties. I personally appreciate this service, and try to return the favor by posting up tackle info for Charksters whenever and wherever I find it.
Juneau, Alaska! I fish salmon and halibut 3 or 4 times a week out of my Parker 2150 Sport Cabin which I keep in the water 10 minutes from my house. I get to Cabo a time or two each year to fish marlin; most recently I've been fishing El Budster, a great boat co-owned by Jim Dillon of San Diego. This fall I'll be on the CharkBait 10 day. A former college professor, I pay for my fishing addition by running a fishing reel repair shop, Taku Reel Repair.
