I have a question about the application of two reels I just purchased. I am putting together some lighter weight tuna gear and was gifted a brand new, in the box, LX (single speed). I then purchased a new JX (2 speed).
I didn't really have any choice on the LX, as it was a gift ("don't look gift horses in the mouth"!). But the JX, I could return.
I was planning on the LX being my 30# live bait rig, and my JX being my 40# live bait rig. But now that I have them side-by-side, the LX is bigger then the JX. I could switch the application, but then I'd be using a 1 speed for the heavier line (and potentially larger fish).
It just seemed funny to be using the smaller JX with the 40#. But that does give me the use of the 2 speed with the slightly heavier gear. And FLLR, nice to know I could push them up one size. I'll be fishing them on Calstar 700M and and Calstar 700H that I'm in the middle of wrapping.
when I was young and strong I would agree with you Azfish. Now I'm older, fatter, and have more money, I use 2 spds down to 30. Why? Because I can! SDTuna has probably the best solution.
Folks answers have me thinking: Say I traded my unused LX 1 spped in on the LX in a 2 speed. And I kept my 2 speed JX, which one would you use with the 40# top shot and which one would you use the 50# top shot. I'm thinkng that since the LX looks "beefer" that folks would use it with the 50#?
