The freshwater bass guys are pretty fickle (I know, I used to do that one a lot when I lived in TX). Some pros used 'em to win a tournament, and then every weekend warrior had to have 'em. They really did have a strong demand. But, blew a window of opportunity because of their decision to basically support one dealer with inventory. That opened the door for competitors to come on the scene, with patterns that are easily as good as what Basstrix offered and with better pricing.
For the most part the guys fishing FW bass didn't make much use of swimbaits, not to the extent we do in saltwater. So, for many of these guys fishing plastic minnow imitations is a new thing. So, just like we often refer to any plastic as a "fishtrap" the FW guys refer to any swimbait as a basstrix. It's become a generic term. We've got the FishBelly's now as one replacement, and another hollow bodied bait should be arriving by the end of this month. Both work best with an under weight style hook...something else we're adding to our inventory mix this month. For the guys fishing inshore these things will work, but so will a BigHammer 3-4" lure on a 3/8 oz tri-head. GS< MS p.s. And, yes I do think we had a troll stop by to place the note... |

Hey Mike, sorry to miss you on those Wednesday nights! Yep, for the past few months we've been going with a six day-a-week schedule and winter hours, closing up shop at 6PM. We'll shift gears to the 7PM closing time during the week sometime after the Fred Hall Show (probably May). By reducing one hour a day in the evening and not staffing the shop with two+ people we are able to save a bit, retain the folks we have in place, and maintain some semblance of a bottom-line. Not always easy this time of year in that regard. Working from two locations, staffing two places necessitates looking at the hours from a productivity standpoint.
As far as the pretty women, well we do okay! Beth needed a change in scenery after almost seven years with us, but she'd been hanging at the warehouse anyway. We have Leeana (who you'll no doubt meet at the FHS). She's a delightful and cheerful character here with excellent customer service credentials. She's been a fixture at the warehouse helping Tom and Matt with our internet clients for the past seven months or so. I stole her from one of the other businesses in our shopping center, so you'll probably recognize her. Also, Aret is working with us now. You remember him (and he's been asking where you've been) too. He was on some of our charters, and you'll remember him as someone you spent time talking fishing with on Wednesdays after we closed the shop and you still had an hour or so to wait on your wife's class. We have two more gals helping us out, Karen doing the books and Leila... GS< MS ![]() |

Yep, I'll be there. We have a good presence at the show and I'm usually at the booth except when grazing on hotdogs... The only thing that might come up is the birth of a child. My wife's due date is 3/10, the show runs 3/5-3/9. So, it's going to be an interesting time for the Charkster and for the other folks working the booth with me given a likely call from home and birthing duty. (Now, I'm fully awaire of the fishing tradition of eating the heart of a guy's first tuna. But, do I really need to chew-off the umbilical and fry up some placenta? I think my sisters are pulling my leg on this one.)

I still remember Mark's old model...the one with the, er, what looked like bruises covered in cheap make-up after another bad night with her old man....and uh....and what looked like meth tracks on her arms.....with that uh....gaunt look that looked like she had been on a 3 day crack binge.....
Now she was a model! What happened to her? Did she go back to rehab? I told Mark he had a real hit on hsi hands....he could have had a new tackle line...Chark's "Crank 'Ho Tackle." |
