What is the current law on passports for trips now? (My passport had expired years ago) I have gotten all kinds of conflicting information just trying to get across Canada to visit Vancouver so I thought some confusion may be on trips as well.

(I called and left a message with Lori of AA and awaiting her return call as well.)

Ok, Lori called me back as she is so great at prompt responses.....so here is the scoop.

NO PASSPORTS REQUIRED as the boats don't touch land---dropping your YT jig to the sea bottom to yank and crank does not count. So a photo ID is all that is needed at least for the rest of the year.

Olliebear,

If you are on a LR boat that travels to mexican waters and has to dock at a mexican port and you need to fly home then a passport is required.

If you do not make port no passport needed.

WAIT A MINUTE FOLKS!

All of you have forgotten the incident that took place on the Excel a year ago. The law now states that pass port is required as Mexico and Canada are DUH considered foriegn countries.

The Excel I think is the boat, had 1 or 2 guys take a serious spill that required medical evacuation. It may have been the Indy. They had to haul ass to Cabo but guess what, neither guest had a passport since they were, not going ashore anywhere.
The consulate got involved to get the men back to America.

Now, in a worst case scenario, this could cost you your life. Do yourself a favor, get the passport. They are now good for 10 years or 12?

Even on my 5 or 7 day trips, I carry a passport. Like the old saying goes. " It is better to have and not need, then to need and not have"

Got a letter from the Rooster about a month ago.
Passport required for the June Heat trip. That's a 15 dayer that's not SUPPOSED to touch land.

I agree with Piggy--- Take it if you got it and if not get it. Thats some cheap insurance.

It is now a requirement by the U.S. Government.

I also hear that Mexican prisons are a sure fire way to find ya a Man-Wife. Take the passport.

Just applied for my passport last friday. Here was the drill. Went to AAA travel center for passport photo (AAA member so there was no fee) took 5 min. Went to county clerk picked up application 5 min. filled in application 15 min. turned in application with birth certificate (note NOT A COPY) photos (2) they took it all photo coppy of drivers license paid $95.00 and was told I would have them in 6 to 8 weeks.
I do live in a VERRY rural aria so it might have gone a little quicker for me than some of you.
If you break it down though it comes to about 10 dollars a year for the peace of mind. Well worth the cost if you ask me.

10 years from date of issue.

yes I have a passport and have had since 1981 due to work responsibilities. My son and family are going on a cruise ship out of Miami and will stop in the bahamas and the whole family, (5) need passports.

If your heading south travel with a passport and reduce any stresss due to emergancy issues.
