Arriving at the dock early in the AM everyones hopes were high as we watched the crew unloading fish after fish from the holding tanks. Finally after about an hour of unloading it was time to start our trip. After baiting up we headed south and ended up trolling later in the day, 1 Bluefin for the day but we werent quite to the fishing grounds yet. Day 2 was not the best weather but the fishing had gotten better, picking away at the albies and blue fin on the troll. A total of about 30-35 fish for the second day. By day 3 the weather cleared up a bit and we were ready to fish hard looking for more schools of fish, but similar to the first day they were difficult to locate. At our final stop of the day the fishing exploded! we almost doubled our count with a bit of variety (albackore, blue fin, yellowtail, dorado, yellow fin, at one stop!) the crew did an awesome job at pulling in the steady flow of fish. Total count 100 or so fish, as far as my first trip on the RP i was impressed all around from the food and fishing to the crew and captain.
Makes some sense to be impressed with the Captain - Frank LoPreste was skippering this trip for us. The guy has a bit of experience...!
Sounds like the LR master got the job done Congrats to all!
Heard back from Frank a few days ago. Looks like we'll add a 7 day to our schedule next year. It will be in late September, on the RP.
Sounds like a must make trip to me...
