Sorry CV didn’t see your post.

The kite setup is used only on long-range trips here on the left coast. The boats have their own kite or two so no need to bring your own. The boat will do a kite rotation just like a trolling rotation but mostly only one kite at a time with one angler. These kites are specialized fishing kites and not toys.

Now balloons are another thing, you can bring your own and most boats have them too. Balloons are used mostly when there isn’t enough wind to get the kite up, sometimes the balloons have helium in them and sometimes not and are bigger than the kiddy type balloon but not huge. Some boats like to fish the balloon baits more then other boats and several balloons can be fished at one time. Also, helium may be provided by the boat or you may need to bring your own.

If you want to fish the balloon on a long range trip, contact the boat first and see what their thoughts are regarding it.

Don't feel bad. I am pouring over data, rigging jigs, reading magazines. Off season can kill ya or make you talk to yourself about tuna. LOL!
