Salmon fishing was a great bite today providing you had a downrigger and could fish at 150', lots of big (40#+) salmon to be had.
I of course don't have one and had to settle for a little 12 pound peanut that committed suicide on my diver rig. However I decided to make the run to Cape Mendocino and fish a few rocky spots I know about. I had to console myself with a 20# ling followed by one that just barely hit 18 then there were seven jumbo 6-8 pound rockfish that decided to eat the 9'' plastic. All in all a great day, did 70+ frigging miles in the boat today and I am pooped Making Humboldt bay safe for bait one halibut at a time |

Excellent! Wow, a down rigger would get you to some fantastic salmon!
