Hi fellas, I went on a 6 man charter in nj on the free spirit for bluefin tuna aug 10. I'll make it brief,we caught shit, goose egg nada. Last year at the same place we hammered em up to 68" 14 in all . this time no sign of life and not much bait either. They must have moved on. Now I hear mass. is getting bft jigging so that is where i'll be soon.tight lines Hank
CH , they are still catching them on the Iron/Chunking them further North from mid Jersey on up to the Chicken Canyon/inside of the Hudson Canyon . The swell from Hurricane Bill has changed things but the BFT will still be around well into September . The Mass. boats have been jigging/jerkbaiting them for over a Month .
Thanks,my info matches yours, but the tuna have been smaller at the canyon, just at the 29" mark.YFT. Up in mass. it has been very good.Victor from fishermandepot was up last week and hooked 3 over 200 lbs keeping only 1 BFT limit
There will be larger school fish around the scallopers on some of the ridges soon . The Mass. fish have always been bigger where ours are more of a mix . We are running a few mid-range chunking/jigging trips on the long weekend . Just talked to the Boss and he said that we may target the BFT. Too bad we can only keep 2 . The Squid grounds always hold some larger fish but it's hard to fish it when there's all those draggers out there .
