My wife, son and I took advantage of the Blue Fin tuna action this year.. a first for all of us. We went out on the Relentless with Capt Dave Waldrip. The fish were pushing baitfish everywhere just 1-2 miles from the beach. My 12 1/2 year old son Joseph hooke up 1st and manhandled a 45" 70lb fish! I was so proud! We all brought in one fish each and my wife can't stop talking about the fun she had on the trip! We could not get another past the 47" slot limit (can only take 1 from 27-47" and 2 from 47"- ?) I missed the slot by half and inch!
Can't wait to go again. Anyway here are the pictures on my son and wife with their tuna.
fishing geek is that my L.R.S u are using, if so i would like it back. lol just kidding congrats to the family and it looks like you guys really had some fun with them b.f.
The Shimanos worked great! I know Chark doesn't like them but we used the boat's gear for this trip...anyway here is me with my first tuna ever! Hoping for a giant some day.
Sorry for the late reply. We were just a mile off of the Provincetown beach! The BFT were chasing bait all day on the surface. Looks like it will be steady through the next two months! My son and i are going again in August.
Now that's some nice size bluefin. Want to trade some bluefin for albacore. Five Star has my fillets ready from July 1. It is being shipped next weekend.
Thanks for the offer but I would have to fight my son for the BFT steaks! He LOVES them and is bugging me daily to go back out for more. Maybe we can trade sometime next year.
Your son needs to try some left coast Albacore then. They make wonderful steaks. Wife and I just like the bluefin raw. If you get more bluefin just hollar. I'll have about 100 lbs of fresh Albacore fillets over the next couple of months.
We are going back out for BFT in August and hopefully we will come back loaded with steaks, I will let you know as we are always looking for different kinds of fish to try.
The local tackle shops report that the inshore BFT blitz stopped almost 2 weeks ago. We're hoping that this weekend's coastal storm is signaling a change in the weather pattern, and a return to the summer pattern will bring 'em back inshore.
I'll give it another shot next weekend... weather permitting.
