I bought an Avet SX 5.1 in November. I used a couple times jigging. My question is this. When setting my drag I also set the tension on the casting control. Is this inherent on lever drag reels or am I missing something? According to the owners manual I have to adjust the control in freespool or risk damage. I am confused.

Russel , we are now doing the mid range wreck trips from 7:00am to 5:00pm . Thursdays and Saturdays are Seabass trips leaving at 1:00 am . The weather has kept most boats in port . Freezing spray/frozen decks don't make for fun fishing . You can't go wrong with 4 to 8 oz silver hammered diamond jigs as far as tunas are concerned .I watched Capt. Mike catch five tuna one trip on the 8 oz. That is about all he uses . The Butterfly jigs caught their share but they are not cheap . Vike cod jigs work too . Hell AVA's catch also .

Cav , I had gotten some assists to try out on my crocs but they were "liberated" during Tuna season . I did see a couple of them in use in place of the regular treble and unhooked some Stripers from them .

Dee , they have done at least good when they have gotten out . I'm still trying to shape up every Sunday. Most of the Thursday Seabass trips either didn't fill out or the weather closed in . The Saturday trips got out more and the fishing has been good when they have gone . The mid range trips had a run of nice Pollock , some Cod , some Seabass , and plenty of ling to go around .
