30T would be the better choice for the line test mentioned, larger drags than the 30. Great machining on the Saltiga. I've yet to meet an owner of one who did not love the reel. Having said that, I own two of the JX 2 speed Avets and love the things. I would not trade them for any Saltiga built...for the type of fishing I do. If tuna are on the menu, the Avet's 2nd speed option makes it a great thing to own. For tossing iron, the Saltiga is a wonderful reel. The Avet does that job well too, whether with or without the magnetic cast control. Jerry, good luck figuring out which one to get. One thing I do know, either way you're getting a very nice reel.

Great Stuff!

Nice to have options Jerry. The two speeds have their advantages for cranking in a fish that pulls hard. A single speed, in the hands of someone who remembers how to use a rod to gain back like and does not simply use a reel as a winch will also get the job done well. So, enjoy the options and get out on the water and catch some fish!

I think he wants you to buy the AVET , but doesnt really say that SALTIGA is the best thing that DIAWA makes, that comes close, you asked a pretty touchy question, he would rather not choose one, but he has alredy bought the AVET, so I guess he would do the same again. For your answer, AVET, I'm not lying am I ?

for sure 30T if you go saltiga, avet jx or hx. this is what i would take in to consideration is the option for a 2 speed. they are both fantastic top of the line reels, the only deciding factor i can come up with is the fact that you can get a 2 speed in avet. you can move the jig fast in high and once you hook a nice fish on a long rod just shift into low and crank on it

Jerry for overall quality you can't go wrong with the 30T. If you are going to be throwing the Iron this is the reel I would choose from the 2 you listed. Not much out there casts like the Saltiga's and it also has great cranking power. Talk about smooth no matter how much drag you apply. Also it's not a lever drag which is another thing I look for when thinking about casting an iron. Star drag is preferrable when chucking iron...

I am always fishing if I have a rod in my hand or not..

CV hates Newells because he can't cast one without a birdnest.

I'd go with a 40 rather a 30T for 40/50#. It's the same capacity as the JX.

Newell makes the best kite reels, that's for sure, only you really don't truly get a chance to set the gaff in them very well, They just rip apart, but those Newells really wind em in like there's no drag slippage "hardly" ever.
