Hi everyone! I will be going on the Islander out of H&M on 8/28. I'm a newbe. This is my first multi day trip. I would like to know what setup I should add next to current tackle. I'll be doing 2-3 day trips. I have the following: (Rods are Calstarr) 20# 270-8' and Sealine 20 25# Penn-8'and Newell P-322 30# 800M and a Saltist 30TH 6.4:1 40# 700MH and a Saltist 40 4.9:1 I have Newell P220 & Sealine 30 as backups. Would you add another 30#,40#, or bump up to a 50# or 60#.I'M willing to rent from the landing if needed. I have about $800 to spend. Open to any suggestions. Thanks | ||

It's always good to have 2 40lb setups for when the bite is hot but with the bait being a mix of anchovies and sardines the lighter gear may rule depending on the bait you get. I can't say enough about the Avet Raptors for any line range. I have been taking overnight-5day trips for 30 years and still find the magnetic cast helpful in a crowded corner on the stern. The other way to go is get your own 60lb setup for trolling and big fish. Penn, Avet, Accurate etc all have good 60lb reels. 2 speed is nice. I just got a Penn Squall that should work great on 2 day trips. If you know how to polish your drag washers on your Saltists you can get some serious drag out of them. I used one on a 5 day at Cedros Island on all the 20-40lb yellowtail you had the energy for. Worked great. This message has been edited. Last edited by: MrTuna, Tackle stores love me.
