For Blue and yellow fin, I've been told and have read either straight braid to Fluor or braid to mono to Fluor. Any pros or cons either way?

Lots of variables to influence which presentation is preferred, chief among 'em the angler's skill level. Going straight braid to Fluorocarbon typically indicates a short leader of 25 feet or less. If that's the case, there's an advantage with bait fishing, presentation, ability for the bait to swim. However, that may not be the right call if one is casting jigs to the fish. It certainly isn't the right call if the angler does not understand what's meant by "FOLLOW YOUR LINE" when fishing the rail.

For someone getting into the sport, I'd say be conservative and learn the ropes first before getting into running short leaders. You don't want to be the guy that tangles up everyone on the boat...multiple times! Most skippers would suggest running at least a boat length of leader, whether mono, Fluoro or a combination.

Great Stuff!

I have to disagree a bit Chark: I think a leader of 25 or 30 feet is plenty long enough even for beginning long rangers. Longer than that and the sardine just can't swim. In fact, a shorter leader will likely get better bait action although may be harder to fish. I want a boat length leader only when I'm fishing big baits -- salamis, skippies, etc.

Thanks Mark & AK, great perspectives from both! I probably fall between both levels.. But this helps based on the fishing I will be doing and the boat I’m on! Thanks again.
